Typical System Configurations
Air Conditioner, Gas Furnace & Indoor Coil
The most common combo in many parts of the country. The furnace blower fan is used to move air over the coil and through the house. To have a properly balanced system, the capacity and efficiency of the indoor cooling coil must match those of the outdoor unit. You will not get the efficiency you paid for if the system is not matched. That's especially important to remember if you're thinking of keeping some older parts of your system and replacing others.

h2. Heat Pump & Air Handler
An all-year, all-electric heating and cooling system that works well in most climates. An air handler is the indoor unit that contains the indoor coil, blower fan and supplemental heater.

h2. Heat Pump & Gas Furnace
Great in areas of the country where winter seems to last practically all year. In warm and moderately cold weather, the heat pump takes care of things. The gas furnace provides efficient heating in extremely cold weather.

h2. Air Conditioner & Air Handler
A great match in many warm climates. They make a highly efficient cooling system, and when chilly days do come the air handler's supplemental heater handles the job.

h2. Single Package Unit
Construction techniques in some parts of the country use a single unit with heating, cooling and air-handling components packaged in a compact outdoor cabinet.

h2. Water Source Heat Pumps
A Trane water source heat pump can easily be installed in a new home or in an existing home-replacing an outdated or broken unit. The water-based system uses well-supplied water or a closed-loop ground heat exchanger (also called geothermal). Because this water is beneath the ground where temperature remains constant throughout the year, it helps to provide efficient heating and cooling operation no matter the season.
h2. The Gist of the Matter
What it all comes down to is this: A heating and cooling system is only as good as its parts. And when it comes to individual components, Trane manufactures the finest in the industry.
